Our Story

Solid Foundation Association, formerly Power Team Ministries was organized in 1992 by the Nacogdoches Bible Fellowship Church located at 2220 E. Main, Nacogdoches, TX. Solid Foundation Association was officially incorporated as an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit faith-based organization in 1998. It is a partner agency of the Nacogdoches Area United Way. All services are available to all persons regardless of race, color, religion, or national origin.

In 2011, Solid Foundation affiliated with the National Afterschool Alliance which supports afterschool programs that keep kids safe, inspire them to learn and help working families. In 2022, Solid Foundation Association qualified as a Neighborhood Recreation Program by the State of Texas Health and Human Services Agency. However, it is not licensed by the State of Texas to provide childcare services. This organization helps children attain their fullest academic, intellectual, emotional/social, and spiritual potential.

The Change We Bring

The poverty rate in Nacogdoches is 144.08% higher than the Texas average and 137.5% higher than the U.S. average.  Underpinning this is the low-education attainment levels in the county now at 32% with less than a high school diploma. Solid Foundation is dedicated to closing the gap. Solid Foundation brings a nurturing and supportive learning environment to strengthen the core foundation of students and their families which changes the trajectory of the cycle and the possibilities become unlimited as we focus on academic achievement and high school completion.

Our Purpose

Solid Foundation Association was formed to provide for the religious, educational, and physical development of boys, girls, and young men and women in Nacogdoches County. Specifically, our Community Services program provides a wide range of charitable services including recreational, supplemental educational opportunities and related social support services for economically disadvantaged children and other members of our community.

Our Mission

Our mission is to end the destructive cycle of poverty that leads to illiteracy, unemployment, burgeoning prison populations, poor self-esteem, poor school performance, delinquency, and ultimately criminal behavior through education. This mission will be accomplished through:

  • Supplemental Education
  • Mentoring and Tutoring
  • Recreational Activity
  • Spiritual Development
  • Cultural Enrichment, and
  • Civics Education (enhanced concepts of patriotism to cultivate interests in community, and in national and international affairs)
  • Economic and Housing Development

Our Goals

Ultimately, the goal of Solid Foundation Association is to set up our members for success so that each will graduate Highschool and become contributing members of society. We believe that this transformation can be achieved through an on-going assessment of individual and community needs through a partnership with a network of service providers responsive to those needs. We believe that as a result, we will experience greater achievement among students, parents, and all members of the community.
